We are YHC!
York Harmony Chorus (YHC) is an award-winning, a cappella ensemble dedicated to promoting and celebrating the Barbershop style of music. We are a vibrant group of women (there are over 50 of us!) who meet once a week in Sharon, Ontario to rehearse and share in the art of four part harmony.
York Harmony Chorus was chartered in 1970 and is currently, under the direction of Martha DeClerq. We are one of over 500 choruses that comprise Sweet Adelines International, a highly respected, worldwide organization of women singers that consists of show choruses and quartets across the globe. Sweet Adelines International has over 30,000 members extending five continents and is dedicated to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance. This independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world's largest singing organizations for women!
YHC is a part of Region 16 which includes over 20 choruses along the shores of Lake Ontario. Once a year our chorus competes in our Annual Regional Competition in Syracuse, NY and we are proud to say that this year we placed 3rd overall and 2nd in our division!
YHC is available for performances in a variety of venues. Our eclectic and large repertoire includes contemporary, jazz, swing, broadway and Christmas arrangements sure to please music lovers of all ages. We also have quartets and double quartets available for performances in smaller venues.
